This painting was created over the course of a few long February evenings. I was working in the studio, which is in our barn, and doing my best to make peace with the gray skies and cold weather. In so many ways paintings like this are my meditation during that time. They focus my energy and lift my spirits a bit.

There’s a lot of joy in it. The way the colors almost break out from the canvas. I think that fight is important during the shirt days and long nights of winter.
